The Editorial Assistant reports to the Academic Editor and assists in all facets of publishing the Graziadio Business Review (GBR), including editing, writing, proofing, tracking articles and the peer review process, expanding social media and networking, as well as other duties as assigned.


  • Assists with journal publications in various clerical tasks, tracking submissions, peer reviews, and responses; maintains contacts with manuscript authors and freelance editors; performs administrative, data, and word processing duties; tracks submissions and revisions to various research and publishing projects; converts manuscripts to proper formatting for editors; enters manuscript information into a database and monitors status; prepares and maintains manuscript review files; ensuring deadlines are met; maintains website. Follows-up with authors regarding manuscript revisions.
  • General editorial duties include some editing, proofreading, research, fact-checking, tracking proofs, and assisting the editor. Managing electronic and paper files, working with freelance writers, and handling correspondence, filing or handling phone calls.
  • Assists in various research projects for the GBR and for faculty; assists in preparing manuscripts for publisher.
  • Corresponds with authors and editors to obtain agreement forms; maintains addresses of authors and journals; addresses and distributes mail, invitations, flyers, publicity letters, and orders for previous issues; tracks responses.
  • Handles orders for software and office supplies.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor of Arts in English, literature, journalism, creative writing, or similar area; or minimum 3 years experience in editing, proofreading and/or copywriting or commensurate experience. Superior written and verbal communication skills with proven skills in writing, editing, proofreading, speaking, and analytical thinking; proven skills in letter, feature, and news writing; organized and detail-oriented; clear personal initiative and strong ability to multitask. Ability to work within a creative team environment; ability to navigate the internet; experience in online and library research; basic ability to post content to the web; adept in Social Media. Supportive of the University mission. Competency in PC and/or Mac computer, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in journalism. Experience working in an academic environment preferred; Experience using the Chicago Manual of Style editing preferred. Knowledge of photography and videography. Competency in Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Dreamweaver, desktop publishing, Final Cut, Wordpress, and OmniUpdate.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
