The purpose of the Assistant Director, Digital Media Communications is to design and manage online participation for alumni, including website, online benefits, and promotional and informational marketing. This position contributes to the University's mission by helping the process of developing alumni who lead "lives of purpose, service and leadership". It supports Goal 3 of the University strategic plan through "building community and enduring alumni loyalty" by engaging alumni in Pepperdine online communities and digital media platforms.


  • Responsible for creation and execution of email marketing campaigns that build and support the Pepperdine brand and improve and sustain alumni engagement and online traffic.
  • Focus on the continuous improvement and design of alumni affairs websites, event registration sites, alumni benefits, and directory, including daily updates and enhancements.
  • Responsible for digital analytics on an ongoing basis and in monthly reports, with a focus on email marketing performance, website traffic, and proposed improvements to alumni communication and programming.
  • Assists in the optimization of alumni data management including, data segmentation, and development of data improvement strategies.
  • Work cross departmentally to maintain and support internal partnerships, sharing in marketing and communication best practices and cross-promoting alumni engagement opportunities.
  • Duties include evaluating emerging technologies and providing thought leadership and perspective for adoption where appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned, including assisting with Pepperdine Family Camp

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Required education - BA/BS in marketing or related field. 2 – 3 years digital marketing-specific experience with a minimum 1 year demonstrated success in email marketing from concept to completion. Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks concurrently. Results-driven with exceptional detail and knowledge around metrics. Detail-oriented and energetic with excellent organization & communication skills. Great at working among multiple teams both technical and non-technical types. Experience with testing software and/or web products. Solid understanding and knowledge of campaign lifecycles and audience segmentation. Experience in e-mail template implementation and modification.

Preferred: Experience with HTML, Google Analytics, SalesForce Marketing Could, Omni Update, Raisers Edge, and/or related programs.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
