Pepperdine University seeks applicants for the regular, full-time position of Academic Advising Associate for the Academic Advising Center, Malibu Campus. Candidates meeting the qualifications shown below will be considered. Duties

  • Provide academic counseling/advising to students
  • Interpret Seaver policies and procedures to students and faculty
  • Assist students in interpreting degree requirements and in creating academic plans
  • Maintain advising notes on students
  • Participate in crafting advising delivery systems
  • Provide referrals to university and community support services
  • Assist in the implementation of Faculty Advisors Training
  • Conduct advising presentations
  • Assist in New Student Orientations and with other programs as needed
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate student employees
  • Enforce university policies and procedures in regard to registration, graduation, academic deadlines, and fees
  • Oversee, update and audit On Course/Automated Degree Audit System
  • Evaluate and process transfer course equivalency
  • Evaluate and process placement exam and challenge exam scores
  • Clear students for graduation
  • Counsel students regarding graduation, On Course problems, transfer credit problems, and other issues
  • Process Credits Committee petitions
  • Assist and participate in graduation activities
  • Assist with schedule changes, name changes, diploma orders, add/drop and registration periods
  • Research student problems (graduation, lost diploma, and/or degree posting, etc.)
  • Assist with telephone and PepperdineXpress registration
  • Manage targeted advising messages
  • Assist students in locating tutors
  • Review and update website
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree (additional qualifying experience or supervisory experience may be substituted on the basis of two years of experience equal to one year of education); one year of experience in an academic advising environment, career counseling and one-on-one and group facilitation, preferably in higher education; one year experience with computer main-frame and PC-based applications and competency in the use of MS Office suites, MS Outlook, Windows OS and Web page-making; An in-depth knowledge of academic advising; ability to use statistical tools and basic research methods; knowledge of state and federal regulations governing academic advising; collaboration skills; people skills; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; presentation skills; planning and organization skills.

Preferred: Training on academic advising theories, principles, and concepts desirable.

This is a regular, non-exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
