This position provides technical assistance to staff an faculty; actively assist in maintenance and support of computer desktops, laptops, and peripherals; assists supervisor with installations and upgrades; works with staff to ensure that services and support expectations are being met; provides documentation and draining resources to staff and faculty; participates in new student orientation events; coordinates the use and reservations of resources; coordinates hardware and software support for special events; other duties as assigned. This position provides maintenance and support for basic client products, peripherals, network, and physical moves. Works on one project at a time and is a project team member.


  • Responsible for providing support on standard client hardware and software products; configures and installs desktop PCs and peripheral equipment; assists in the deployment of new images, software/hardware upgrades, and fixes, troubleshoots problems using scripts and checklists as guides, escalates when necessary; Works with basic infrastructure products, researches trouble issues with guidance from others; documents problem status and resolution in tracking log; alerts team members about recurring problems; may provide on-the-spot training to clients; participates in integration testing; assists clients with recovery issues; documents solutions to common problems and responses to frequently asked questions; builds relationships with individual clients; identifies client service improvements and shares success stories with clients and team members; is aware of service level agreement targets; takes steps to meet or exceed requirements; explains service procedures to clients; provides input during project planning and requirements phase; provides timely and complete project status reports to supervisor as requested.
  • Supports the GSEP/GSBM/SPP/Executive Center students, staff and faculty. Maintains public printing stations and assists students with printing needs. Maintains IT public computers and equipment. Supports Audio/Visual equipment, maintains equipment. Also provides training on AV equipment.
  • Staff Support: Answer questions (walk-in/phone calls, email, etc.); Create, schedule and deliver training and workshops on technology and software applications to staff as requested; Recover data and files for staff and faculty when necessary; Consult with staff and faculty on current and future software and hardware requirements; solicit feedback from staff and faculty to improve facilities and services.
  • Technical Support: Research design and implement efficient operation of workstations to include OS optimizations, application stability and administrative management solutions; attend product seminars and courses to broaden individual knowledge of hardware and software; coordinate with other IT departments for all network, telephone and server related needs and access.
  • Administrative: Coordinate scheduling of technology resources and resolve conflicts arising from demand exceeding available resources; create extensive training manuals for current and future computer lab staff; maintain files of current licensed software; maintain supplies; maintain emergency procedures.
  • Serves on various committees, internal and eternal to the information technology division.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Associate's degree or significant relevant experience. Requires 1 year of relevant IT work experience. Demonstrates working knowledge of basic hardware and software products and problem solving/troubleshooting skills. Advanced knowledge of working with computers and applications in a networked environment; ability to trouble-shoot hardware, software, and server-related problems; knowledge working with Microsoft Office applications; file conversion,; graphic design software and graphic preparation for various delivery (Web, PowerPoint, etc.); digitization of materials (graphic and text scanning, slide scanning, etc.); knowledge of working with client-server and web-based applications; knowledge of pedagogical theory, tips and techniques using technology; Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to be able to communicate at all levels and with all elements within the departments to include senior officials and external groups.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in business, communication, modern languages, natural science, religion, sociology, humanities, education, technology (computer science, graphic or information design) or related field preferred; courses in technology, education, graphic or information design recommended; certification in computer applications recommended; experience training end users in hardware or software preferred; experience with project management preferred, experience with e-commerce a plus (for business division). Willing to work weekend and evening shifts on an "as needed" basis.
