The Community Manager manages and supports the alumni community portal and the internal and external marketing for the online community portal. This portal provides a comprehensive, one-to-one networking platform for the Pepperdine community, connecting alumni to students and other alumni to support professional development. Duties include the administration and successful maintenance of the portal, the development and support of campus partners who will participate in the portal project, and the recruitment and support of the portal’s participants from the Pepperdine community, including alumni, students, and parents. This position will involve the development of close partnerships with each of the five school alumni relations offices, career and volunteer centers, and marketing staff. The Community Manager will work with the school alumni and student affairs staff to develop strategies to increase student connections with alumni through the online community portal.

Duties

  • Community Portal Administration: Assist in the development, marketing and growth of the community portal which will involve collaboration with advance and alumni relations colleagues from IT, Marketing, Volunteer and Career Centers. Oversee the daily administration of the community portal activities ensuring its ongoing success. This will include close coordination with port vendor and management of all participant activity (student, alumni, parents, and campus partners).
  • Collaboration with Campus Partners: Create and support partnerships with University departments, schools, institutes, student and alumni groups that will benefit from participation in the community portal. Work closely with Career and Volunteer Centers to ensure that alumni and student the development of experiential learning opportunities and the efficacy of portal activities related to mentoring and professional development for alumni and students. Maintain contact with advancement officers to keep them apprised of alumni and parent engagement.
  • Internal Training: Develop online training guides and video for portal administrators. Conduct quarterly training session for new administrations. Develop and train on policies and procedures for using the platform.
  • Performance Metrics and Reports: Define success metrics which can easily be monitored and measured. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the University and School administrators that show how the portal contributes to meeting the goals of the Alumni Engagement Strategic Plan. Create and manage dashboard statistics used by administrators and department managers for monitor daily activities.
  • Participant Support: Identify and recruit potential participants for the community portal. Survey active and inactive participants to help improve the value delivered by the port to constituents. Work with marketing communications to develop online training videos. Troubleshoot problems participant issues from the alumni front desk help line.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree required. 1 year professional experience in a non-profit or higher education environment which includes experience in one or more of these areas: managing volunteers, relationship cultivation, program development or digital marketing communications. Able to act strategically, championing new ideas and programs while maintaining the values and mission of the Pepperdine culture. Detail-oriented and focus on product work of the highest caliber. Service-oriented and sensitive to the needs, motivation, and expectations of others. Excels in working in collaborative, team-oriented environment. Social communication skills that inspire others to engage and support the online community. Strong communications skills and must be able to speak effectively in public. High capacity to manage many tasks with strong skills in organization and time management, able to meet deadlines and work with distractions. Able to deliver results while being process-oriented and build relationships with alumni volunteers and others. Resourceful and decisive under pressure. Must be industrious and possess a strong ethic of accountability. Able to act with discretion and integrity. Must be able to work independently while adhering to the standards, policies, and procedures of a larger team.

Preferred: Uses online popular social media platforms both personally and professionally. Worked on a project team in school or at work. Skills working with diverse personalities and managing, assisting, and motivating volunteers and staff to accomplish goals on time, within budget and with adherence to University guidelines.

This is a regular, exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
