The Social Media Manager is responsible for developing the enterprise social media strategy for Pepperdine, engaging the Pepperdine community and public through social media and mobile platforms, elevating and strengthening the University brand in the social media and mobile environment, and providing integrated support to Pepperdine's schools and departments in their implementation of social media and mobile initiatives. Integrated Marketing Communications is directly tasked with supporting the University's mission and strategic plan by building brand equity, elevating the University's national reputation, providing strong and consistent institutional message leadership, and implementing effective integrated marketing and communication strategies. The Social Media Manager fulfills a central role in helping the department accomplish its goals.

Duties

  • Social Media Strategy and Team Leadership - Develop strategy, coordination, and assessment for University social media initiatives. Conceptualize and execute campaigns using current social media techniques and trends to support University goals related to advancement, recruitment, and national reputation. Partner with schools and central departments to provide integrated support that achieves both organic and paid social media objectives.
  • Outreach and Engagement - Develop social content calendar and publish daily content across all University social channels, including posts, photos, videos, and other graphics. Align with public relations and editorial teams to augment and support public relations campaigns and University news. Manage and respond to social inquiries, providing exceptional customer service and a key brand touchpoint to the public and University community.
  • Mobile Strategy and Platform Administration - Oversee University mobile strategy and serve as administrator of the University's unified mobile app. Work closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors to roll out new tools, features, and processes to augment mobile engagement and user experience. Identify and evaluate opportunities for emerging mobile platforms and initiatives.
  • Policy Development and Committee Leadership - Chair the social media and mobile governance committees, serving as an expert resource to other social media and mobile teams. Formalize and document training, policy, processes, and best practices for all University social media channels and mobile development.
  • Social Media Systems Administration and Analytics - Serve as administrator of University social media systems and accounts. Measure, analyze, and report performance across all social channels, assessing KPIs including channel growth, community size, impressions, engagement, traffic, and conversion.
  • Reputation Management - Proactively monitor the Pepperdine brand conversation through social media and other public forums. Serve as a brand ambassador within digital and social communities. Deploy and monitor social media messaging during emergencies and times of crisis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree. 3-4 years of experience in an integrated communications, marketing, advertising, or public relations environment. Demonstrated experience managing, implementing, and measuring enterprise social media strategies across digital and social platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and Youtube. Demonstrated experience managing mobile applications and platforms. Superior written and verbal communications skills. Ability to write creative, concise, memorable copy while applying SEO best practices. Ability to develop and execute multi-platform social media and mobile strategies. Strong project management skills. Demonstrated experience in successfully working with peers. Demonstrated success at working under tight deadlines. Professional appearance. Proficiency in Google Apps for Education, Salesforce Social Studio, Google Analytics, and Social Media Analytic Software.

Preferred: Master’s degree in relevant field. Experience in higher education social media. Social media strategy and measurement. Comprehensive awareness and interest in new trends, platforms, and technologies for the emerging digital, social, and mobile landscapes. Proficiency in Workfront, Raiser’s Edge, and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
