The Sponsored Programs Accountant (SPA) will be expected to manage the post-award fiscal administration of University grants. Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Research, he/she will perform accounting and operational duties required to establish, monitor and report on externally sponsored programs in accordance with OMB Circulars, CFR, funding agency regulations, and internal financial management controls. By ensuring sponsored programs compliance in relation to faculty scholarship, this position supports the University's commitment to the highest standards of academic excellence.

Duties

  • Monitor active grants and sponsored programs to verify proper distribution of resources and use of funds, ensuring compliance. Oversee all grants billing, accounting processes, and related receivable collections.
  • Provide technical support for the annual Financial Audit including generation of audit schedules, research, reconciliations, etc. Oversee indirect cost and fringe benefit recovery rate proposal process.
  • Develop and implements fiscal policies and procedures to ensure grant compliance.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of pre-award sponsored programs proposals regarding budget, finances, etc.
  • Monitor key agencies (e.g. NSF, DOE, DOJ) to stay knowledgeable of new and or revised regulations.
  • Provide financial analysis and prepare reports for Assistant Provost for Research, Compliance Attorney, PIs, and external sponsors. Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, and maintain sub-journal ledgers.
  • Monitor and approve cost transfers in collaboration with Assistant Provost for Research and Compliance Attorney.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: A bachelor's degree in Accounting. Solid accounting and analytical skills. Ability to prioritize and stay focused on assigned priorities. Ability to work independently, meet internal and external deadlines and produce a consistently high-quality product. Strong attention to detail and excellent customer-service skills. Experience and proficiency with MS Excel, Word and Internet Explorer.

Preferred: An MBA and/or CPA. In-depth knowledge of OMB Circulars, CFR, funding agency regulations highly preferred. Federal agency requirements including NSF, DOJ, DOE highly preferred. Experience with higher education institutions. Experience and proficiency with Peoplesoft. Familiarity with GASB accounting policies and procedures. 1 year of related experience with sponsored project management preferred.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
