The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) at Pepperdine University is seeking applications for the full-time administrative position of Senior Institutional Research Associate. This position reports to the Associate Provost of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. This position is responsible for extracting, analyzing, reporting, and disseminating University data for the OIE.

The Senior Institutional Research Associate will possess excellent skills in conducting research, analysis and reporting. This position requires knowledge of higher education along with the ability to work collaboratively in a changing environment, and the skill to work with members of the University community (faculty, staff, and students).


  • Identify needs, collect data, and/or direct the collection of data necessary for college planning, research, reporting and other institutional effectiveness functions, including, but not limited to: Accreditation annual reports; reviews and self-studies; Fact Book; State and federal reports, ad hoc reports, and publications; IR website; Summary reports of nationally normed surveys; Strategic Plan Metrics.
  • Prepare and submit annual report to the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC); submit changes/additions relating to the annual report throughout the year.
  • Assign CIP codes for new/change academic programs for PeopleSoft Data Change Requests.
  • Develop dashboards and data visualizations to create a strong self-service functionality for institutional stakeholders.
  • Serve on the Data Stewardship committee.
  • Arrange for the maintenance of archives, procedures, data sets, data extract programs and programming languages, and policies.
  • Participate in higher education professional organizations and keep abreast of national, state and local educational issues.
  • Collaborate with IT/BI team to support the development of data warehouses.
  • Work effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators to integrate the use of data into academic program planning and review, institutional management, and financial planning.
  • Serve as one of the main resources for current and historical data on students, staff, retention and graduation.
  • Act as the point of contact for any issues relating to research/data driven decision-making, including interactions with administrators, faculty, staff, and outside agencies.
  • Coordinate and help prepare IPEDS surveys.
  • Produce data to fulfill internal/external requests in a timely manner and with strict attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintain statistical data on the OIE website for public disclosure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Master’s degree required, doctorate preferred, in one of the social sciences, higher education, policy research, or related field, or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes. Five or more years of experience in institutional research or institutional effectiveness; Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral), skills working independently and as part of a team and an appreciation for the handling of sensitive data and utilize sound judgment when disseminating results. Demonstrated ability and interest in continued learning and development as a data science and institutional researcher.

Preferred: Experience with student information systems, and federal/state reporting. Experience in responding to and submitting institutional data to publication surveys (e.g. U.S. News & World Report, College Board, etc.), accountability surveys (e.g., WSCUC, IPEDS), and other organizations as needed (e.g., AAUP, CUPA, NAICU). Experience/proficiency in PeopleSoft SA, PS Query, MS Office (especially Excel functionalities), relational databases (e.g., Access, Excel, SQL), statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, Stata), and Tableau. Experience with Assessment Management Software systems.
