Under the direction of the Director of the Department of Facilities Services (DFS), manages all aspects of the Custodial Services division to ensure an efficiently functioning, safe, and clean environment in which the University can live, learn, and work. Manage Custodial Services personnel and oversee relevant cleaning, pest control and event support processes.

Duties

  • Direct and coordinate and in-house and contracted custodial staff for the Malibu campus; oversee quality of cleaning by food service provider in cafeterias and kitchens; supervise custodians in maintaining all campus building at the highest level of cleanliness and repair; coordinate work assignments and check/evaluate completion of work.
  • Direct and coordinate pest management for interior building spaces, including vendor coordination and reactive and proactive service. Direct and coordinate waste management, including strategies for recycling diversion goals and efficiency improvement.
  • Maintain adherence to safety standards and training for all staff in this area; provide annual staff written evaluations and ongoing informal evaluations; attend training seminars and professional development forums related to this position; assist with planning and assessment of facilities; provide leadership in concert with the University mission and DFS goals and objectives.
  • Use the TMA system to provide work reports and resource use; perform regular administrative tasks such as maintaining files, processing paperwork, and entering data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: High School diploma or its equivalent; four years of management experience; proof of legal U.S. working status. Valid California driver's license; willingness to be on 24 hour on-call status to respond to emergencies; strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; must consistently project a professional demeanor and positive attitude; ability to work independently and as a team is required; willingness and ability to periodically work long hours and respond to emergency calls after hours/weekends; ability to maintain effective teamwork, high work standards, and good employee morale; knowledge of purchasing, budgeting, scheduling, record keeping, and good custodial practices required. Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office and Google email. Knowledge and experience using a computer work order system. Must drive personal vehicle for University business (mileage reimbursed) and be insurable under University's standard auto insurance requirements. Must be willing to support the mission of Pepperdine University, articulate a strong commitment to diversity, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

Preferred: Five years progressive responsibility within custodial services industry is strongly preferred. Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.
