Reporting to the Executive Director, the Project Manager at the Institute for Entertainment, Media and Culture (iEMC) provides administrative, event and project management support to the Institute’s Executive Director and Academic Directors for their iEMC-related activities and projects.

The iEMC’s activities advance Pepperdine's dual mission of academic excellence and Christian values by enhancing the education and development of Pepperdine students who aspire to careers as values-centered creative talent and impactful leaders within the entertainment and media sectors. The iEMC Project Manager coordinates and supports iEMC operations necessary to achieve effective implementation of the iEMC mission and goals, thus contributing to and supporting the University’s mission.


  • Provide administrative and operational support to the iEMC's Executive Director and Academic Directors for their iEMC-related projects, including coordination and administrative support for meetings, events and projects.
  • Assist with coordinating and managing the overall portfolio of iEMC events and projects. Collaborate with appropriate internal and external individuals to coordinate the logistics of iEMC events, and to promote events to the relevant communities, including students, faculty, alumni, industry executives, employers, and the public. Occasional attendance at evening and Saturday events plus periodic local travel with personal vehicle will be required.
  • Assist with preparing and managing event and project budgets; facilitate payments and expense reconciliations, credit card substantiations, payments to student workers and external vendors.
  • Maintain the iEMC website and social media content, including a list of upcoming and recent entertainment and media related courses and events that are occurring across the University and within the LA area.
  • Perform other administrative and operational support duties as assigned by the iEMC Executive Director.
  • Uphold the University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Undergraduate degree; three years of administrative experience including budgeting, processing payments, expense reimbursements, coordinating multiple projects for multiple individuals. Strong communication skills (writing, proofreading, social media, interpersonal, organizational); experience in communicating effectively across a range of internal and external constituents. Ability to work independently without daily in-person supervision. Budgeting, oversight and initiation of payments, and financial reporting, including experience with using computerized accounting, payments, expense reconciliation systems. Project management, and time management skills, including ability to manage multiple projects for multiple individuals. Coordinating event logistics and hosting. Comfortable with public speaking. Proficient in using personal productivity tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Drive.

Preferred: Master’s degree and/or relevant professional certification; Project Management Professional (PMP) certification beneficial; more than 5 years of experience in higher education, with demonstrated accomplishments in administrative support and project management areas. Prior experience with using Pepperdine administrative systems. Familiarity and interest in the entertainment and media sectors advantageous. Understanding of good website aesthetics and functionality from users’ perspective. Marketing and effective communications savvy. Proficiency in using Pepperdine administrative systems.

This is a restricted, nonexempt, 20 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
