Reporting to the Dean of the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School (PGBS) at Pepperdine University in California, this new senior executive role will be chiefly responsible for advancing strategic innovation, marketing, and alumni relations (SMA). The Graziadio Business School recently completed an ambitious strategic plan called “Aspire 2025”. Several mission-critical priorities and initiatives have been identified that will require thoughtful leadership, skillful orchestration, and dedicated implementation. The SMA executive leader will partner with the PGBS Leadership Team, the Graziadio Board, PGBS colleagues, and stakeholders to develop plans and organizational measures to foster alignment and executional focus, to identify and steward resources, and to ensure ongoing strategic agility in a competitive business education market. Given the mandate and scope of Aspire 2025, our Marketing and Alumni teams will also report to the SMA leader to help integrate activation and strengthening of the Pepperdine Graziadio brand. This person must have a strong and innovative marketing background and sensibility, able to create a disciplined program for identifying and promoting programs and opportunities that will drive prestige, brand distinction, enrollment demand, and strategic alumni engagement. The SMA leader will also partner with the Dean, advancement teams, and others, to develop strategic positioning ideas derived from Aspire 2025 that nurture the School’s ecosystem and enhance our philanthropic base. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to collaborate, nurture an engaging performance culture, and function effectively in a dynamic work environment. Skills and Qualifications


  • At least 15 years of progressive leadership experience in either higher education, or significant industry/consultancy roles responsible for strategic planning, marketing, and innovation-related functions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High levels of emotional intelligence, team leadership, strategic and conceptual selling, and relationship-building skills.
  • Track record of achieving greater results, and an aptitude for innovation and change management in complex organizational settings.
  • (Ideally), a doctoral degree from a reputable institution indicating familiarity and credibility within an advanced academic or learning environment.

Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

Dependent on candidate profile, the role will be appropriately titled commensurate with the seniority of the candidate and executive status of the role.
