The Administrative Assistant will provide general office support to the Divisional Dean, faculty, staff, and students of the Seaver Communication Division. This is a service-oriented position which contributes to the academic and personal well-being of students (and faculty). The person in the position serves as a steward of university resources and is responsible for fostering an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect. This is often most challenging when working with faculty or students in responding to urgent needs for advice or assistance. The person in this position must be able to calmly assess the situation and provide guidance to appropriately resolve the immediate problem. The Communication Division keeps an "open door" policy, so the person in this position is expected to handle a variety of concerns and treat each student, parent, or visitor as an important member of the Pepperdine community.


  • Provide general office support to Divisional Dean, faculty, staff, and students (including word-processing, answering phones, and other clerical duties).
  • Assist with student registration, academic advising, and the creation of the course schedule.
  • Supervise and coordinate duties of student workers.
  • Arrange faculty travel and process expense reports and requisitions.
  • Process assessment data and teacher evaluations.
  • Coordinate departmental banquets, receptions, and events.
  • Liaise with prospective students and family.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma; At least two years of general office experience. Competence in both written and oral communication; skills in interpersonal and public relations; ability to use sound judgment; excellent telephone etiquette; general office skills; strong organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Google Suite; ability to multi-task. Multi-line telephone system; photocopier; fax machine; personal computer; laser printers.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; At least two years of office experience in an academic setting. Competence in PeopleSoft data management; some design experience (Adobe Creative Suite).

This is a regular, nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
