To better manage the complexity of multi-state filing requirements and international programs, the University is creating a part-time Tax Manager/Director position. This specialized role is a new position for the University and is initially envisioned as a part-time role. For a candidate of exceptional qualifications and experience, there is the flexibility to establish a regular work schedule which accommodates family responsibilities. As the position develops, there is also the opportunity for a full-time role. 


  • Complete PBCs and perform detail and quality reviews of federal, state and local filings for tax-exempt organizations and foundations, including Forms 990, 990-T, 990-PF and 5500. Familiarity with PeopleSoft is a plus.
  • Identify compliance obligations, calculate and track estimated payments and NOL carryforwards, and prepare and maintain a filing calendar and tax files.
  • Research and become knowledgeable about reporting requirements for the University's international campuses, including locations in England, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, China, Argentina, and Washington, DC. Coordinate and facilitate the work of local firms in managing compliance obligations.
  • Research various tax issues and new legislation affecting tax-exempt organizations by using the Internal Revenue Code, regulations, rulings, case law, and other relevant authorities/guidance. Collaborate with the CFO, in-house counsel and external consultants.
  • Draft technical tax memoranda; correspondence with federal and state entities; and policies, procedures and training materials.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team, the Offices of the Chief Investment Officer and the General Counsel, the Human Resources Team, International Programs, and other University constituents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Minimum of 5 years of experience at a large local, regional or national public accounting firm, with a substantial dedication of time to providing nonprofit tax compliance and consulting services. Diverse in-house nonprofit tax work may substitute for public accounting firm experience. Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines, including exceptional organizational skills. Must be willing to dig in, organize and maintain files, develop procedures and assume point accountability for compliance. Self-starter and team player, with high standards of excellence. Intellectually curious with the ability to research and formulate options and make quality recommendations. A sense of humor and patience, to handle the inevitable frustrations and misunderstandings which can occur within the workplace. Must display a genuine and heartfelt interest in the mission of the University and be committed to student success.

Preferred: CPA with active license preferred. MST or JD helpful.
