The Student Employment Professional Development Coordinator is responsible for creating and facilitating student-outcome-focused professional development for student employees and their hiring managers. Ensuring that working as a student is a high-impact educational practice, this position will promote best practices, develop resources for supervisors, address student employment policies, and provide student employees with necessary job skills.

This position will also help students have quality student employment learning experiences. Participating in student employment has been shown to have high correlation with employability at graduation. Students who are mentored by Pepperdine supervisors gain real world work experiences, are prepared to enter a competitive job market, and live lives of purpose, service, and leadership. 


  • Research, develop, implement, and host creative and sought-after training and development programs for student hiring managers and supervisors that focus on student employment as a High Impact Practice. These trainings will be delivered through multiple media formats.
  • Research, develop, implement, and host creative and sought-after training and development programs for student employees, including New Student Orientation, New Employee Training, and Title IX and Anti-Harassment Training.
  • Plan, organize, budget, and execute student employee recognition events, e.g. Student Employment Week and Student Employee of the Year Banquet.
  • Coordinate training program logistics and format.
  • Oversee Job Location and Development Program and Community Service Job Program.
  • Supervise Student Affairs Intern.
  • Maintain and update Student Employment website and other forms of social media.
  • Conduct surveys, analyze data, and perform assessment of High Impact Practices and student learning.
  • Serve on a Student Affairs Emergency Response Team.
  • Participate in professional development and attend University events.
  • Attend convocation/chapel on a weekly basis.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree; 2-3 years’ work experience in fields such as student employment, student development, human resources, training and development, teaching, or related area; superior verbal and written communication skills; excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills; ability to integrate Christian faith with student development theories and practices; proficient knowledge of audio/visual equipment for events and workshops; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn University systems including PeopleSoft, Kronos, and Handshake; ability to create Prezi and PowerPoint presentations. As a staff member in Student Affairs who works closely with students, this person serves as a Christian role model and promotes a biblical worldview.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Education, Communications, Human Resources, or related field; experience in designing and delivering professional development curriculum; a proven track record of being able to lead collaborative change and instill a vision; commitment to excellence. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite Tools and course authoring programs (i.e. Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, etc.) preferred but not required.

This is a regular, exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
