The print production assistant provides valuable services such as printed and bound materials to Pepperdine students and staff. This position is responsible for setting up and operating the binding equipment and Ricoh sheet fed color presses in the printing services department.

This role will also be required to work, on occasion, in the printing services Malibu campus print center. He/she will help students and staff to produce print  projects including but not limited to: documents, posters, pamphlets, brochures and bound materials from digital files, graphics, and design software.

This position will follow the Living Pepperdine standards in day to day work; participate in Daily Line-Ups and be able to articulate how the standards tie to daily work.

  • Send digital files (PDF format) for print and finishing from the Fiery RIP to Ricoh sheet fed color presses using instructions from written work orders.  Setup, adjust, and operate bindery equipment and hand tools. Assist students with printing needs. Feed books and related articles such as periodicals and pamphlets into binding machines, following specifications.

  • Operate hydraulic paper cutter.

  • Interpret written work orders and verbal instructions.

  • Assist graphic designer with job setup.

  • Provide quality control on finished jobs, including but not limited to: printing issues, finishing defects, correct quantities, and confirming the completed materials match the requested order.

  • Observe and monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and to determine whether adjustments are needed.

  • Maintain printers and bindery equipment to ensure optimal working condition. Advise supervisor is maintenance is needed.

  • Pack completed orders and ship completed work.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills over the phone and through email, providing a prompt, high level of customer service to community members.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

  • Uphold the Living Pepperdine standards in day-to-day work; participate in Daily Line-Ups and be able to articulate how the standards tie to daily work.

  • Work collaboratively with team members and serve the University and community with a positive attitude.

  • Approach work as a service ambassador to the community.

  • Ability to work in both the Calabasas and Malibu campuses.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds for up to 30 feet; ability to work in a noisy environment and stand for prolonged periods. Ability to read and write in English and interpret verbal instructions. Ability to do repetitive tasks for long periods of time. Ability to work with tight deadlines and demanding customers in a friendly and professional manner. Willingness to learn new technology and machinery relating to graphics, digital files, and equipment.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, One year minimum experience working in a print shop. Proficient in Google Drive and Email, Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, and Fiery RIP.
