The reproduction clerk is responsible for setting up and operating the binding machines in the printing services department. This position creates books and other bound materials for Pepperdine students, faculty and staff. The reproduction clerk will also operate black and white as well as color printers and copier machines. This position provides valuable services to Pepperdine students, faculty and staff. Many areas of the University require bound materials for important meetings and handouts.
This role will also be required to work, on occasion, in the printing services satellite office on the Malibu campus. They will be helping students to produce class projects including but not limited to: documents, posters, pamphlets, brochures and bound materials.
This position will follow the Living Pepperdine standards in day to day work; participate in Daily Line-Ups and be able to articulate how the standards tie to daily work.


  • Set up, or set up and operate, machines that perform binding operations such as pressing, folding, and trimming on books and related articles.
  • Operate and program paper cutter.
  • Read work orders to determine setup specifications and instructions.
  • Examine stitched, collated, bound, and unbound product samples for defects such as imperfect bindings, ink spots, torn or loose pages.
  • Start machines and make trial runs to verify accuracy of machine setups.
  • Observe and monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and to determine whether adjustments are needed.
  • Set machine controls to adjust lengths and thicknesses of folds, stitches, or cuts, to synchronize speed of feeding devices and stitching, and to adjust tension on creasing blades and folding rollers.
  • Install and adjust bindery machine devices, such as knives, guides, rollers, rounding forms, creasing rams, and clamps, in order to accommodate sheets, signatures, or books of specified sizes, using hand tools.
  • Fill machine paper feeds.
  • Lubricate and clean machine parts, and make minor repairs in order to keep machines in working condition.
  • Secure reels of stitching wire on spindles, and thread wire through feeding, cutting, stitch forming, and driving mechanisms to load stitcher heads for stapling.
  • Feed books and related articles such as periodicals and pamphlets into binding machines, following specifications.
  • Remove printed material or finished products from machines or conveyors, wrap products in plastic, and stack them on pallets or skids or pack them in boxes.
  • Operate and maintain high volume monochrome and color copiers/printers.
  • Send files to printers from computer.
  • Operate and program paper cutter.
  • Ship completed work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Provide a prompt, high level of customer service to community members. Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma. One year minimum experience working in a print shop. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds 30 feet; ability to work in a noisy environment and stand for prolonged periods. Ability to read and write in English. Ability to do repetitive tasks for long periods of time. Ability to work under deadline pressures. Ability to learn to operate new equipment and procedures quickly.

Preferred: Some College. Google Drive, Microsoft Office.
