Pepperdine University Athletics's Director of Business Operations is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and supporting all business operations within the Department of Athletics. This person is to be personally and professionally in harmony with the mission of Pepperdine University. The Director of Business Operations will manage and direct all functions of the business office including supervising the Assistant Director of Business Operations and the Manager of Business Operations. 


  • Know, understand, and comply with policies of Pepperdine University, the NCAA, and the various conference offices.
  • Organize the preparation of annual budgets; serve as Major Area Budget Manager; oversee budgets throughout the year; communicate budget status to each head coach and athletic administrator each month; and process all necessary budget adjustment forms.
  • Coordinate the purchasing and payment of all expenditures of the department utilizing the Purchasing Department, Accounts Payable, Payroll, etc. in compliance with University policy.
  • Conduct monthly review of charges against the department's budgets.
  • Ensure proper payments to officials, contractors, and others supporting game operations.
  • Oversee, direct, and support the planning and securing of all team and individual department travel needs.
  • Supervise the auditing of ticket operations.
  • Coordinate and audit the process of all cash and in-kind gifts and services received to benefit the department.
  • Assist outside auditors with University, governmental, and NCAA auditing needs.
  • Complete and submit annual EADA (Equity in Athletic Disclosure Act) survey and the annual NCAA Membership Financial Reporting Systems reports.
  • Take the primary leadership in the educating of departmental staff in the understanding and operations of the new University financial system as well as institutional financial policies.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree and three years of progressively responsible administrative experience; demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral; ability to work effectively with external constituents; ability to communicate and work effectively with internal constituents, particularly senior staff, coaching staff and other appropriate University staff; experience using database management systems and other common office computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, email, and browser applications; ability to work both independently and as a team member; the qualities of a results-oriented self-starter; demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion; appreciation of and commitment to further the mission, values, and goals of Pepperdine University.

Preferred: Master's degree

Salary: Commensurate with experience
