This entry-level position was created to provide additional technological support to the web-based technology operations of the University. This position will interact directly with internal customers to understand software requirements, create proof-of-concepts and build production-quality programming code. The Jr. Developer will use their skills with HTML, CSS, to support our web platforms across the university.

This position supports the University’s mission by developing websites that promote our brand to our major audiences as well as creating functionality that drives some of our essential recruitment and alumni systems via the web. Our IMC team and this Jr. Web Developer position align our entire approach for marketing and communications around the mission and strategic goals. Major systems and initiatives involving this position include web redesign, web server administration, mobile and email.


  • Back-End Coding & Development - Develop/implement web applications and code using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery knowledge on University Websites and digital initiatives.
  • Web Application Development & Management - Oversee the administration of Pepperdine's online event calendar, digital newsroom, and search engine.
  • Core Web Platforms - Serve as secondary support/administrator for core web platforms including web servers, drupal cms, web databases, and Wordpress.
  • Customer / Constituent Support - Troubleshoot and provide innovative solutions for digital initiatives.
  • Reporting & Analytics - Create, synthesize, and distribute performance reports for imc digital marketing projects.
  • Documentation & Training - Document IMC digital marketing processes, best practices, and provide training as needed.
  • Communications - Promote system and best practice adoption. Advocate for Pepperdine's core digital marketing platforms.
  • Stay current with industry trends and inform other stakeholders on required changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree; Two-plus years of experience in Web design and development using HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery and SEO best practices; One year of experience with version control and deployment using Git and Node.js and Grunt frameworks; LESS/SASS, jQuery/Ember.js across the enterprise for web, mobile, and email; HTML/ CSS/Photoshop for development and site production (hand code) required; Working knowledge JavaScript/XSL/PHP for development and site production a Plus+; Familiar with analytics, adwords, tracking software, SEO and fundamental web marketing concepts; Ability to lead small development projects, discuss project requirements with vendors, and to meet time sensitive deadlines. The ability to work independently and timely is a must. Proficient using Development tools such as; Dreamweaver, Sublime, or Textwrangler. Proficient in Google Webmaster tools.Proficient in Web Analytics tools such as Google Analytics. Mac and PC proficient

Preferred: Excellent project management and prioritization skills and ability to align efforts across multiple departments. Good understanding of web development and design as it pertains to search engine optimization. Very strong organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft and Google suites, Slack.
