The position is responsible for assisting the Director of Alumni Relations in increasing alumni engagement by managing the data and analytics of a comprehensive alumni relations program that supports Pepperdine University and GSEP’s fundraising initiatives. The Alumni Relations Specialist will communicate with alumni using electronic and multiple social media platforms, create publications such as a newsletter, and assist the Director of Alumni Relations in planning, coordinating, and implementing events to promote Alumni Relations and GSEP in general. This position will also maintain the alumni database and provide reporting as needed for decision making, as well as work collaboratively on programs and events with the departments and committees within GSEP, the faculty in the Education and Psychology divisions, the Office of Alumni Affairs, and the Alumni Leadership Council.


  • Ensure accurate and complete alumni database records. Capture contact, biographical, and career information via surveys, directories, correspondence, and website portals.
  • Maintain database in Raiser's Edge; write queries and prepare data export as needed for publications or alumni outreach; oversee the event data entry into Raiser's Edge; oversee the updating of alumni records; and produce quarterly reports from all systems.
  • Provide data for GSEP annual report and support efforts in report completion.
  • Establish and build relationships with a wide range of alumni locally and nationally; maintain regular communication with alumni via direct contact, email blasts, print and digital publications, and PeppConnect.
  • Assist in the implementation of the alumni engagement strategic plan, while challenging alumni to contemplate planned giving, scholarship giving, and endowment giving to support fundraising and Advancement initiatives.
  • Develop opportunities to foster relationships with alumni through events such as admissions recruitment, the GSEP newsletter, distinguished lecture series, information sessions, and other planned events.
  • Cultivate professional relationships with alumni, faculty, staff, and students. Keep abreast of developments with the Office of Alumni Affairs, the Alumni Leadership Council, and the other Pepperdine Alumni Relations offices. Identify opportunities for synergy. Advance best practices.
  • Create and implement engagement campaigns and events as a part of the overall annual Alumni Relations Engagement Plan.
  • Work with Pepperdine's Institutional Effectiveness department to create targeted surveying. Creating and administering engagement surveys to alumni.
  • Training on some technical programs may be required and some public speaking at events.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree. 1-2 years of experience in Alumni relations, data gathering, data reporting, and analytics. Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment. Customer service experience. Experience volunteering for organizations and working with volunteers. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. The ability to manage and prioritize a number of competing projects and deadlines on an on-going basis. Working knowledge of computer technology on both Mac and PC platforms. Well versed in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photo-Shop or comparable design programs. Knowledge of cloud base storage, CRM systems (i.e. Salesforce) and integrated educational systems (i.e.PeopleSoft)

Personal cell phone is required; Professional demeanor; Travel is required as needed.

Preferred: Two years of experience in marketing and recruitment. Website management/development. Social Media Platforms. Experience with PeopleSoft and/or other CRM providers. Experience organizing and mapping out communication plans. Experience in creating and writing marketing materials.
