Under the direction and guidance of the Automotive Services, Lead: perform automotive maintenance tasks including, but not limited to: major and minor tune-ups; replace brake shoes and pads; perform routine lubrications; oil changes; tire rotations; brake fluid flushes; alignments; and air condition repairs. Keep repair records on all fleet vehicles using TMA; perform other related duties as assigned.

This position will follow the Living Pepperdine standards in day to day work; participate in Daily Line-Ups and be able to articulate how the standards tie to daily work.


  • Conduct extensive diagnostic procedures to determine the sources of vehicle problems and provide accurate repair recommendations.
  • Perform routine automotive maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, transmission flushes, air conditioner re-charges, front-end alignments, battery installations and headlight/taillight installations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current industry best practices in automotive repair.
  • Inspect vehicles according to the state's requirements for emissions and safety.
  • Conduct necessary repairs and take vehicles for test drives to verify soundness.
  • Maintain legible and accurate paperwork for both the department and for our records.
  • Clean and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
  • Advise supervisor of matters deserving attention regarding automotive repairs.
  • Cooperate with supervisor to implement policies governing vehicle maintenance.
  • Monitor and assist with the procurement of parts, materials and inventory for the maintenance and repair of the Malibu Campus automotive fleet.
  • Maintains vehicle records and provide documentation of similar problems which have occurred in the past for the university fleet through TMA.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.
  • Uphold the Living Pepperdine standards in day-to-day work; participate in Daily Line-Ups and be able to articulate how the standards tie to daily work.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and serve the University and community with a positive attitude.
  • Approach work as a service ambassador to the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: High school education and Technical/Trade school or equivalent; valid California driver's license and DMV printout as proof of good driving record required with application Good working knowledge of all phases of automotive maintenance, including tune-up, minor body repair, brakes, transmissions and electrical systems; ability to diagnose and repair problems; demonstrable professional experience in above areas; dealership or manufacturer's training on Ford or Chevrolet products strongly preferred. This position must be familiar with forklifts, automotive and material handling equipment.

Preferred: Minimum of two (2) years of Service Technician experience at an automotive dealership; brand-specific experience and Technical School Diploma desired. A strong skill for diagnosing and identifying various automotive (Cars, light trucks and
shuttle buses) repair needs. Current knowledge and ability to perform the best practices in the automotive repair industry.
Ability to effectively communicate with other team members and stakeholders in order to maintain a positive and efficient work environment. Consistent attendance record. Ability to drive a forklift.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position. Vanpool commuter options are available at many locations in the greater Los Angeles/Ventura County areas. Salary: $50,000-$55,000
