The purpose of this role is to serve the University and international students as a Designated Student Official (DSO) to reach, advise, educate, and encourage university and student compliance with US federal regulations. Additionally, this role directly assesses and develops solutions utilizing technology to improve university and unit level processes related to international students' immigration status, as well as ensure data integrity and compliance with US government reporting requirements.


  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO), assisting students with obtaining and successfully maintaining their F-1 visa status during their enrolled, CPT, and OPT status with the University. Advise students regarding immigration related questions and help connect students with University services and resources as needed.
  • Assist the unit by envisioning and implementing unit-level process and system improvements impacting international enrollment such as coordinating web updates, batch communication to select student groups, the automation of internal processes involving existing and emerging tools and systems.
  • Serve as a point of contact for university administrators regarding the production of the Form I-20. Educate administration regarding issues pertaining to international students and maintaining compliance with government, University, and OISS policies and regulations.
  • Assist with the standardization and centralization of student data, required documents, and interdepartmental policies in accordance with government, institutional, and OISS policies.
  • Stay updated on industry standards to implement and recommend best practices related to immigration, information systems, technology and communications via various professional development opportunities virtual, on and off campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: U.S. Citizenship and/or permanent residency (required by the U.S. government to serve as a DSO), Bachelor's degree; at least two years of relevant administrative experience, attention to detail, strong written and oral communication; inter-cultural competency, complex problem-solving abilities; strong verbal analytical abilities, interpersonal skills, exceptional organizational skills, evidence of updated competency with technology MS Office Suite (Excel), familiarity and ability to learn and work with systems such as (PeopleSoft, TargetX, Nolij, SEVIS), with ease, familiarity with electronic forms and integration with systems to assist with the automation of unit and university processes

Preferred: Master's degree; formal training in immigration policy, at least one year of experience or formal training in International Higher Education as a SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO); membership with NAFSA as evidence of continued training on updated law and policy Knowledge of immigration law and policy relating to F-1 and J-1 international students; knowledge of the field of higher education; software implementation experience Experience with SEVIS manual entry, experience with SEVIS batch updates, query writing in PeopleSoft, report writing in Salesforce/TargetX, experience with imaging systems (Nolij)

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: $55,000-$60,000 annually.
