The Director of Student Veteran Services is a new position that will seek to strengthen the University’s support of student veterans, building on Pepperdine’s position as a veteran-friendly University. The director will provide vision, direction, energy, and coordination of services to support student veterans at Pepperdine University. The director will act as a liaison for veteran students to connect them with campus and external resources to ensure an exceptional educational experience and to support their success at the university and beyond. The director will cultivate an inclusive climate that values the veteran community and fosters a culture of respect and a sense of belonging for veterans as integral members of the Pepperdine family. This position will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that veterans receive the educational benefits to which they are entitled and to raise financial support for veteran’s services at Pepperdine.

Duties

  • Coordinate the activities of student veteran organizations at Pepperdine's schools and colleges and assist in the establishment of additional student veteran organizations as appropriate.
  • Work with the Registrar's Office to ensure certification of veterans for the Yellow Ribbon and GI Bill programs.
  • Communicate with veterans who are interested in attending Pepperdine.
  • Liaise with Pepperdine student veterans and the University and the support services offered for student-veterans.
  • Engage in fund-raising efforts to support student veterans.
  • Identify and work with corporations and organizations external to Pepperdine to provide student veterans with postgraduate employment information and opportunities.
  • Advocate for student veteran concerns and foster a welcoming environment within the Pepperdine community.
  • Identify opportunities and develop partnerships with federal, state, and community agencies to enhance services provided by the University.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and work in close collaboration with the Registrar's Office and other campus stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal, state, university, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and local laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree; Proven ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies and diverse populations; Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; Dedication to student veteran population.

Preferred: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Preference will be given to veterans of the United States Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal, education, and employment screening. Qualified individuals with criminal histories will be considered for employment in compliance with applicable laws.

This is a restricted, exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
