Reporting to the Associate Provost, the Director of Online Learning provides administrative and project management support to the Associate Provost for Online Learning. Online Programming is expanding throughout the University, extending the reach of Pepperdine's dual mission of academic excellence and Christian values. Students who are unable to attend a physical campus are able to acquire the benefits of a Pepperdine education. Data from the Office of Educational Effectiveness suggests that students who attend online are more likely – relative to on-campus students – to attend Pepperdine because of its mission rooted in the Christian heritage.


  • Oversight and coordination of aspects related to online program management throughout Pepperdine, working with various departments, across schools, and within the university to ensure student success. Collaboration areas include finance, financial aid, registrar, information technology, insurance and risk, and marketing.
  • Engage with school program directors on sharing best practices, cultivating solutions to business challenges, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient business operations and processes are documented.
  • Oversee and guide the assessment process for online programs through the university, in coordination with program leadership at the various schools.
  • Maintain and oversee records related to the state authorization process, including collaboration with online program management vendors, government employees, and internal stakeholders on the state authorization process.
  • Provide administrative support to office of APOL, including expense reconciliation and credit card reconciliation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the APOL and represent the APOL when necessary.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Master’s degree; five years of administrative and management experience; strong communication skills (writing, proof-reading, interpersonal); experience in communicating effectively across a range of internal and external constituents; ability to work independently without daily in-person supervision; budgeting, oversight and initiation of payments, and financial reporting, including experience with using computerized accounting, payments, expense reconciliation systems; project management and time management skills, including ability to manage multiple projects for multiple individuals; proficient in using personal productivity tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive

Preferred: Master’s degree in business or similar; Project Management Professional (PMP) certification beneficial; more than 5 years of experience in higher education with demonstrated accomplishments in administrative oversight, assessment, and project management areas; prior experience with using Pepperdine administrative systems; familiarity and interest in online programming advantageous
