Under the guidance of the Director and the Lead Business Analyst, the Business Analyst assists in supporting the Business Intelligence (BI), Data Warehouse, and Data Stewardship systems.This is done through working on project assignments, identifying, documenting and modeling current business requirements, maintaining the BI website, assisting with upkeep of metadata strategy and standards and training university partners in the use of the above systems. This position maintains and fosters relationships between BI technical and operational staff, and university partners within the administration and schools of Pepperdine University.


  • General: Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following: documenting business requirements, defining business rules, developing test cases, supporting testing, and working on project teams. Assist with the collection, analysis, and documentation of a client's business requirements. Participates in short-term planning sessions with a client to implement process improvement within an assigned client area. Documents discussion and agreements. Supports liaison relationships with business partners in order to provide technical solutions to meet user needs. Assists in assessing client needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to assist in identifying business priorities. Develops, writes, and communicates requirements for the implementation of business solutions. Seeks technical assistance to help in problem resolution. Develops user test cases and validates test results during user acceptance testing. Investigates, resolves, and escalates problems. Analyzes metrics to ensure customer satisfaction. Provides input to project status reports and communicates status to business partners. Provides timely and complete project status reports to supervisor as requested.
  • Specific Duties:
    • Coordinates operational support for Data Warehouse, Analytics, and Data - Stewardship systems, including: Conduct data validation; Create data reports, visualizations and specifications; Provide production support (for issues, maintenance, etc.)
    • Assist with upgrades and implementations
    • Gains expertise in Data Cookbook Enterprise Edition to support Data Stewardship efforts
    • Maintains BI website
    • Completes project assignments
    • Assists with developing and conducting user training
    • Acts as liaison between BI team and university partners
    • Coordinate end user and/or committee meetings
  • COLLABORATION - As needed or required: Provides backup support and assistance to other team members. Collaborates with co-workers and university colleagues on departmental, division-wide, and institutional projects. Shares process information and makes informal recommendations on how to improve processes and overall job execution within team/department.
  • COMMITTEES - As needed or required: Serves on various committees within the Information Technology division. Participates in external university committees.
  • DEVELOPMENT - As needed or required: Attends trainings, vendor presentations, user group meetings, conferences and seminars. Engages regularly in individual professional development related activities to remain current with industry technology trends and work processes.
  • BEYOND JOB DUTIES - As needed or required: Volunteers to undertake tasks that stretch the employee's capabilities. Performs other related duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field, specialized training, or equivalent work experience; two or more years of relevant technical or business work experience and basic knowledge of business operations and systems requirements processes; advanced written and communication skills; basic presentation/training skills.

Preferred: Experience with Blackboard Analytics and/or Power BI systems. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server systems. Experience with PeopleSoft Student Administration systems. Experience with Salesforce systems. Experience with data warehousing systems. Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with G-Suite.
