The position plays a crucial role in the leadership and support of externship experiences for students as well as managing Straus’ training programs. This position is an integral part of keeping Straus at the forefront of dispute resolution education and delivering first class programs and experiences for our students. On the externship side, the person in this role will support the educational experiences of our students and regularly provide counseling and programs to introduce students to the externship program. They will be responsible for developing relationships with firms and organizations who can provide meaningful opportunities for students to apply what they have learned in the classroom in a real work environment. This position will also manage existing training programs and conferences as well as to help streamline and develop new program opportunities. The synergy between these two roles is that often professionals who participate in training programs/conferences are also ideal candidates to support and mentor our students through externships. One of the goals of this new position is to bridge the academic and non-academic programs within Straus to provide the best possible outcomes.

Duties

  • Oversee Externship Program: Assist students in finding meaningful placements that will enhance their knowledge and skills set which is a critical component of their professional formation. Track and manage all student hours submitted and verify completion of each externship experience. Identify and intervene in any problems that arise with students.
  • Manage and help create events, online training programs and Straus’ Professional skills programs. Use technology to increase the visibility and reach of these programs.
  • Work with students on career development counseling. Assist students with finalizing job placement materials, executing recruiting events, and maintaining employer relationships.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with current and potential externship placements or employers. Meet with students to assess their educational goals and develop employer relationships to help meet those needs.
  • Oversee and assist with logistics for all Straus Clinics.
  • Assist directors with Special Projects.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. Familiarity with academic and professional skills programs in dispute resolution and conflict management helpful, but not required. This person should relate to off campus professionals and be able to establish good relationships easily. Three years of working in a customer service oriented position. Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple assignments simultaneously; self-motivated team player required. Excellent written and verbal communications skills; strong professional and interpersonal skills. Naturally personable and comfortable working with students and professionals at all levels. Experience with Salesforce, Peoplesoft or similar university records management database preferred; demonstrated ability to learn and leverage current and emerging technology tools to enhance student communication and engagement.

Preferred: Experience in cross-cultural communications and cultural sensitivity ideally in an educational setting.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
