The Instructional Designer in the Education Division at the Graduate School of Education and Psychology contributes to GSEP's strategic vision for technology and learning. This position acts as a vital member of the Education Division's teaching and learning community to research, design, and manage online/hybrid course development for the Doctoral and the MS in Leadership programs; support the Education Division’s implementation of Optimal Engagement and Immersion Pedagogy by working closely with faculty and GSEP’s IT Support Services; perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Collaborate with faculty to design, build, and maintain online courses in the LMS. Align course objectives, assignments, and rubrics with adopted PLOs, and contribute to the assessment process. Provide research-based instructional design support to faculty through the consultation process from ideation to implementation, focusing on innovative learning experiences to increase learner engagement in the online space. Build courses in the LMS and consult with TechLearn to troubleshoot technical problems and find solutions. Provide faculty support and training in the LMS and relevant instructional technologies and tools. 
  • Assist faculty in implementing OEIP technology and support the ongoing instructional technology needs of the faculty of the Education Division. Work nights and weekends, as needed, for OEIP support. Train student workers to assist faculty with OEIP implementation.
  • Assist faculty in the acquisition and production of course materials, such as creating/editing relevant videos and media pieces and curating library resources, etc. Review courses for accessibility.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and courses by prioritizing tasks based on high-demand and need.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in education (learning technologies or educational technology), instructional design, information technology, or other related field; courses in technology, education, graphic or information design. Requires minimum 2 years of relevant work in the field of Instructional Design and IT Support, or significant experience in Education with required ID/IT skills. Successful record of instructional design work demonstrating extensive knowledge of the four key ID roles: design, manage, support, and train. Current knowledge of best practices in online teaching and learning. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with faculty and team members. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet firm deadlines.

Advanced knowledge of working with computers and applications in a networked environment; knowledge of working with Microsoft Office applications; file conversion, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Snagit; Google Suite applications; graphic design software and graphic preparation for various delivery; digitization of materials; knowledge of pedagogical theory, tips and techniques using technology, and learning management systems. Preferred: Master’s degree. Record of innovation and creativity in identifying and integrating technological solutions to pedagogical needs. Evidence of ability to generate faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of new technologies for teaching.
