The Application Management Team Leader is responsible for the implementation and support of software applications. This position will be involved with visiting with users to analyze processes, study feasibility, design solutions, gather feedback, and implement/manage software systems. This position will also play a role in the development and implementation of custom services and applications through a leadership role within Application Management.


  • LEADERSHIP: Provides assistance and guidance, through mentorship, for other application analysts, student workers and interns in the Department in order to support University development. 
  • INNOVATION & SOLUTIONS: Designs, develops, and implements major custom applications for the University including planning, analysis, design, data modeling, implementation, testing, training, documentation, and maintenance Studies feasibility of new project requests to guide development operations.
  • COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIPS: Represents Pepperdine and IT in a professional manner when collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Develops and maintains strong partnerships with University departments and leadership, as well as with external vendors and service providers, to improve IT Client Services support services and to assure current and future operational and strategic success.
  • TRAINING & SUPPORT: Assists University faculty/staff/students with application related problems. Provides supplemental server and database administration functions to support software applications.
  • ADMINISTRATION: Supervises level one and level two analysts Reviews, approves, and/or submits regular paperwork and processes, such as bi-weekly or monthly timesheets, financial activities, assessments for mid-year and annual review processes, and other routine IT and University practices for self and staff.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Estimates time required for tasks and projects for self and direct reports. Reports status of current projects on a regular basis to leadership and stakeholders.
  • RESEARCH & ANALYSIS: Conducts needs analysis with constituents to identify opportunities for application improvements or new projects. Reviews application support requests (in-person, email, support ticket, etc.) to assist in root cause analysis and identify solutions and enhancements to improve user experience. Evaluates design/development trends, new/emerging technologies, and other application solutions for consideration within IT or the University.
  • COLLABORATION - As needed or required Provides backup support and assistance to other team members Collaborates with co-workers and university colleagues on departmental, division-wide, and institutional projects Shares process information and makes informal recommendations on how to improve processes and overall job execution within team/department COMMITTEES - As needed or required Serves on various committees within the Information Technology division Participates in external university committees.
  • DEVELOPMENT - As needed or required Attends trainings, vendor presentations, user group meetings, conferences and seminars Engages regularly in individual professional development related activities to remain current with industry technology trends and work processes
  • BEYOND JOB DUTIES - As needed or required Volunteers to undertake tasks that stretch the employee's capabilities Performs other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree in programming/systems or computer science, specialized training, certification, or equivalent work experience. Requires 3-5 years of systems analysis experience; and knowledge of distributed systems architecture, middleware, or object-oriented analysis and design. EMPOWERING OTHERS (Basic):Delegates simple tasks and the related decisions to others. Guides others in the criteria and choices available when making decisions. Provides context and parameters for individuals to develop objectives and plans for delegated responsibilities. Monitors their progress and provides feedback and support as necessary.
CHANGE ADVOCATE (Basic): Participates in change initiatives by implementing new directions and providing appropriate information and feedback. Offers ideas for improving work and team processes. Experiments with new approaches and improves productivity through trial and error.

Preferred: Demonstrated experience managing Microsoft.Net web applications; SQL Server Administration; Windows Server Administration experience. KACE or equivalent device management services, PaperCut, Sophos or equivalent Anti-Virus applications, Enterprise application licensing, HelpDesk, and HelpDesk ticketing experience.
