The Assistant Director promotes mental health on the Pepperdine University campus through direct intervention, outreach/prevention programming, consultation, and training.  This particular position provides mental health services to currently enrolled Pepperdine students and is part of the leadership team in the Counseling Center.  They contribute to the development of Counseling Center policy and procedures, manage the training program within the Center, and serve as a senior clinician, providing clinical supervision and consultation.  In the Counseling Center, we seek to hire, retain and mentor talented employees who share a love for Pepperdine, its students, and its mission. Duties

  • Provide therapy for currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students experiencing a wide range of difficulties.
  • Manage the training program in the Counseling Center.
  • Document and maintain client files.
  • Conduct preventative psycho-educational workshops.
  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and parents regarding students of concern, assist in training re: campus mental health issues.
  • Provide clinical supervision.
  • Assist the Counseling Center Director in program development, project execution, and division assignments.
  • Respond to clinical emergencies, manage crisis situations and provide crisis intervention.
  • Attend convocation/chapel on a weekly basis, serve on the Residential Emergency Response Team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Licensed in CA or another state as a psychologist. Five years working as a mental health provider, with one year in a University setting. Experience as a licensed supervisor of clinicians in training. Verifiable training and experience working with individuals of diverse racial, cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds. Proficiency in individual therapy, crisis intervention/management; ability to work with students and parents with a variety of presentations; ability to collaborate with other professionals who serve students. Committed to equity and inclusion and vested in sustaining a culture with those values. PCs, Windows-based software, Standard MS Office applications

Preferred: Licensed in CA as a psychologist. Able to provide clinical supervision in CA. University Counseling Center experience. A minimum of three years verifiable experience working in a mental health setting with young adults, adults, and couples experiencing emotional problems. Minimum of one year supervising other clinicians. Experience managing or coordinating programs within a mental health care setting. Interest in group therapy, developing outreach events and collaborating with other departments. Experience using Titanium. Familiarity with SPSS.

The Assistant Director must be flexible with their time, able and willing to work beyond a 40 hour work week, including nights and weekends as required.  Qualified individuals must have personal faith in Jesus Christ and be actively involved in a local church (member of a congregation of the Church of Christ preferred).

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position working 11 months of the year.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
