Serving in a general program management capacity, the Assistant Director is responsible for the development and operation of administrative and student services-related functions within the expanding portfolio of online degree programs offered by Pepperdine Graziadio Business School. As part of the Part-Time Program Administration team and in partnership with program faculty, other administrative departments, and an external online program management provider, the incumbent will play an integral role in the creation, implementation, and assessment of systems and structures that support the enrollment, retention, and degree completion of students enrolling in PGBS online programs.

Duties

  • Serve as the main point of contact with the external program management provider for matters related to program administration and student services; help to ensure alignment of academic and administrative processes between the online and campus-based, part-time programs. 
  • Closely coordinate student support and retention efforts between PGBS and the external provider. Provide guidance to the external Student Support Advisor team and serve as a point of escalation for issues that fall beyond their scope. Oversee coordination of and represent PGBS at program related events. Collaborate with supervisor, program faculty, department chairs, and PGBS senior administration, as needed, to develop solutions to complex matters that may arise.
  • Hire, train, and supervise other staff providing administrative and operational support to online programs. 
  • Liaise across PGBS departments to coordinate internal processes/protocols, including but not limited to student enrollment and onboarding, course registration, scheduling of live sessions, tracking course development progress and faculty payments.
  • Closely collaborate with internal stakeholders and external program partners to develop and implement mechanisms for monitoring and assessing various aspects of the online student experience (e.g., academic engagement and progress, retention, satisfaction, etc.).
  • Leverage available and emerging technology tools to enhance online student experience. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Master's degree and familiarity with the role and functions of an academic program office within a college/university setting. Three (3) or more years as an academic advisor/counseling or a comparable role, with exposure to diverse student populations. Knowledge of principles and practices related to academic program operations. Strong interpersonal skills and service orientation. Effective strategies for managing entry- to mid-level professional staff, including hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and comfort incorporating technology into daily work. Competency with standard business equipment and software (Microsoft Office products, Google-based tools); comfort using modern communication technology, including tele- and web-conferencing.

Preferred: Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Human Development, or other related area.
Two (2) or more years serving in a management role within an academic or administrative department at a college/university. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the development and implementation of new ideas and initiatives. Strategic approach to goal-setting, prioritizing, delineating objectives, and instituting accountability measures to carry out projects from inception to completion.

This is a Restricted, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
