The Research Associate/Institutional Research Analyst reports to the Director of Institutional Research, and helps oversee the Office of Institutional Effectiveness’ (OIE) institutional research (IR) activities. This position is responsible for extracting, analyzing, reporting, and disseminating University data to internal and external agencies and stakeholders. This position requires a strong knowledge of higher education and IR, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to work collaboratively with teammates and other members of the University community. Candidates with significant institutional research experience may be considered for a Senior Institutional Research Associate/ title.


  • Identify needs and/or prepare data deliverables necessary for decision-making and other institutional effectiveness functions, including, but not limited to: state and federal reports; Common Data Set; accreditation; University Factbook; ad hoc reports; and, statistical data on the OIE website for public disclosure.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and data visualizations to create a strong self-service functionality for institutional stakeholders. 
  • Oversee and manage OIE's data request system, and respond to requests. 
  • Coordinate and help prepare the University's federal reporting dataset (census). 
  • Collaborate with Information Technology (IT) and Business Intelligence (BI) on University data warehousing, integrity, and validation.
  • Participate in higher education and IR professional organizations and keep abreast of national, state and local educational issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Master’s degree required in social science, higher education, policy research, or related field.
Strong statistical skills are required, and incumbent is expected to be adept at preparing data visualizations and deliverables. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of institutional research and higher education regulation/policy. Incumbent will be expected to produce data to fulfill internal/external requests in a timely manner and with strict attention to detail and accuracy. Incumbent must exhibit strong project management skills, and demonstrate a strong ability to follow through with tasks with minimal supervision. Incumbent should possess an appreciation for the handling of sensitive data and utilize sound judgment when disseminating results.

Preferred: Two or more years of institutional research experience is preferred. Experience/proficiency in PeopleSoft SA, PS Query, MS Office (especially Excel functionalities), statistical software packages (Stata preferred), Tableau, and Power BI.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
