Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance Services for the Department of Facilities Services (DFS) and in collaboration with your colleagues, respond to work order requests and supervisors' directions to perform relevant installation, repair, replacement, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems, components, and fixtures throughout campus utilizing plans, specifications, and verbal instructions. Collaborate with DFS and other University departments to initiate and deliver high quality projects on budget and in a timely manner.

Duties

Ensure electrical equipment and infrastructure is properly installed and maintained, complies with electrical codes, and adheres to safety regulations.

Manage materials, parts, and equipment, including inventory tracking, record keeping, product research, and supply procurement. Perform all work to be in compliance with plans, specifications, applicable codes, industry standards, best practices, and Pepperdine standards. Identify and address issues in need of attention and generate work orders accordingly.

Using appropriate tools and following relevant plans and specifications, service, repair, replace, adjust, inspect, and test systems, equipment, and components that operate primarily on the basis of electrical principles, including but not limited to detecting, locating, troubleshooting, and fixing malfunctions, defects, and deficiencies, connecting electrical wiring between circuit breakers, transformers, controls, components, and equipment according to wiring diagrams. Test electrical circuits and components for continuity. Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment. Place conduit, pipes, or tubing inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through conduit to complete circuits between boxes.

Accurately record and report all work performed indicating the time and materials expended. Perform regular administrative tasks such as maintaining files including drawings and associated documentation, processing paperwork, entering data, and monitoring systems. Maintain required trade-specific training and certifications and obtain further training as needed. Support and inspect vendor and contractor work as required. Assist other trades with tasks as needed. Effectively communicate and coordinate with project participants to ensure that all parties are well-informed and that work proceeds on schedule with minimal impact to University operations. Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area. Uphold University mission through work performed. Perform other duties as assigned.

In addition to the above duties, the Service Electrician shall be assigned to work on a weekend rotation that may require covering and completing work in all trades, not just electrical.  The above information has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. Skills and Qualifications

Required: Proof of legal U.S. working status is required. A high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent is required. Six (6) years of full-time, paid experience in electrical work and two (2) years of trade-specific Electrical education is required. Must be able to provide evidence of recent completion of NFPA 70E and OSHA eight (8) or sixteen (16) hour courses. Possession of the C10 Electrical Contractor License for the State of California, is preferred. 

Broad technical knowledge of practices, principles, and techniques in the electrical field and industry standard Preventative Maintenance (PM) processes is required. The ability to understand plans, design specifications, electrical schematics, and manufacturers' instructions and recommendations to ascertain the configuration of relevant equipment and components, ensure their proper installation, and remedy issues is required.


Competency using tools and operating equipment of the trade such as power recorders, multimeter, amp meter, megger, infrared camera, and pipe bending tools, is required. Knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and emergency power systems is required. Analytical and problem solving skills to successfully resolve issues is required. Strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required. Must consistently present a professional demeanor and positive attitude. Ability to work independently and as a team is required. Willingness and ability to periodically work overtime hours, respond to emergency calls after hours/weekends, and work rotating weekend shifts providing general maintenance duties for the campus is required.

Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office and experience working with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), preferably TMA, is preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Normal mobility and ability to move around construction sites. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, traverse rugged terrain, climb up and down ladders and scaffolding is required. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds (and occasionally up to 100 pounds), including up and down stairs is required.

Must drive personal vehicle for University business (mileage reimbursed), hold valid driver's license, and be insurable under University's standard auto insurance requirements.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
