The Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI), which is part of the Office of Church Relations, is dedicated to raising up the next generation of Christian leaders. Through various projects and events, the initiative provides youth across America with resources and training to develop the skills necessary for pursuing lives of leadership committed to Christ.

This position would be responsible for assisting the YLI director in the administration of events, communications and fundraising. They will aid in building bridges through networking with leaders in Churches of Christ and Restoration churches as well as prospective students from those churches. They will also oversee and train student workers who serve in the CrossWays Christian leadership training event as well as student workers in the Church Relations office.


  • Support the Christian mission of the University.
  • Select, train, and oversee the student workers who serve at CrossWays and coordinate the budget, marketing outreach, participant follow-up, registration, service projects, and other logistics for that 9-day event.
  • Coordinate Won By One, Pepperdine''s six-member student a cappella group, which would include scheduling church and youth event performances, managing the group dynamic, budget, contracts, scholarships, and communication with the Musical Director.
  • Assist the YLI Director with calendar scheduling, budgeting, credit card substantiating, website, email/phone communications, and other events.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts and donor cultivation through Church Leaders Council and YLI Endowment, including sending out quarterly newsletters, gift renewal emails, and Christmas gifts annually.
  • Oversee the videos and communications for Youth Leadership Lab, an online leadership course for middle school students.
  • Travel to Christian youth ministry events to represent Pepperdine and connect with youth ministers and students, including coordinating logistics for and attending two annual Pepperdine Youth Ministry Network events.
  • Coordinate, logistics, communications, registration, and other details for the Next Gen Preacher Search. This includes managing the 2 day on-campus event for 25+ participating speakers and coaches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; ability to work independently without supervision; maintain confidentiality; ability to manage and motivate others effectively; ability to work in a self-directed and proactive manner; ability to work courteously but effectively with constituents who seek immediate solutions; ability to maintain discretion when handling confidential information; highly detail oriented, organized,and articulate. with a proven ability to work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines; superior customer service skills; ability to speak in a professional manner with high clarity and accuracy; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to take direction; Highly proficient in Google Drive Apps such as Docs, Sheets and Slides, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, video editing software; Knowledgeable in Mac and Apple devices, file sharing, mobile devices, PC, Mac, phones, scanning, copiers/printers, and fax machines; Knowledge of the Churches of Christ in relation and other Restoration Movement churches; demonstrates excellent content writing skills; Exceptional communication skills both in person and over the telephone; Organizational and administrative experience, including budget management, managing multiple projects at a time, etc; Ability to adapt to flexible job responsibilities; Strong Mac and PC navigation skills; Basic video and website editing capabilities; proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Calendar)

Preferred: Actively involved at a local Church of Christ; administrative support experience demonstrating organizational skills and ability to work well with many different personalities; experience in managing and motivating others effectively; An understanding of youth groups, youth-related church programs; knowledge of Church of Christ Youth ministry; proficient in either iMovie, Adobe Premier, or FinalCut.

This is a Restricted, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week, 11 month position.
