Pepperdine University seeks applicants for the regular full-time position of Associate Laboratory Manager for the Natural Science Division of Seaver College, Malibu Campus. The associate lab manager will partner with the laboratory manager to ensure facilities function well in support of teaching and research efforts in the science laboratories and stockroom. Duties will include support for field experiences for classes and research projects, ordering and receiving goods, managing the stockroom area, training and managing student employees, ensure the safe and secure storage of chemicals and materials, and direct engagement with faculty in support of their research laboratories. The associate laboratory manager will be provided time and support to gain a Class B driver’s license to facilitate driving students on field events and retreats. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Duties

  • Coordinate the operation and maintenance of the science laboratories and stockroom
  • Consult with faculty to plan and support laboratory and field experiences for their classes and research projects
  • Plan for acquisition of all lab supplies, including chemicals, animals and equipment; insure the safe and secure storage of these items in compliance with fire and safety code
  • Make logistical arrangements for field trips, and drive 15 passenger van when needed; maintain cleanliness of division vehicles; run local errands
  • Coordinate with numerous other university offices and facility personnel
  • Maintain facilities, records, budgets and inventories; hire, train and supervise student employees; maintain cost and availability information for supplies/equipment 
  • Uphold University mission through work performed 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

Required: A bachelor’s degree in laboratory science or equivalent is important for this position along with a general knowledge of scientific laboratory equipment. The successful candidate will secure First Aid/CPR certificates and valid California Class C commercial with passenger endorsement driver license upon hire. Familiarity with email and Microsoft Office programs.

Preferred:  Job-related experience in laboratory research or management.
