Under the general supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Engagement and Mass Appeal, the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications acts to create, manage, implement, and evaluate departmental marketing and communication strategies across all media platforms, with the ultimate goal of building community and enduring Wave engagement and giving.

The purpose of this position is to promote events, engage Waves with captivating digital content, and build online communities. This individual will lead data collection and analysis projects to inform online and in-person alumni engagement strategies. Additionally, this position will manage the creation, publication, and distribution of program, web, and video content to support department initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in technical ability and have the desire to create dynamic connections with alumni, students, parents, and friends of Pepperdine. 

Duties

  • Create, publish, and distribute digital video programming through constituent online channels.
  • Develop video and written media content for the department websites, event marketing, monthly e-newsletter, and social media.
  • Manage online platforms and emerging technologies related to alumni and parent engagement and giving.
  • Support events in creating websites and promotional/transactional content.
  • Manage department constituent data, create/run queries, reporting, segmentation, and develop constituent demographic personas for the purpose of e-communication.
  • Measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns and assess against goals.
  • Supervise marketing and communications student workers and all departmental marketing initiatives.
  • Content writing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelors degree in integrated marketing communications, film studies, public relations, or related field; Experience in writing content for newsletters, press releases, etc.; Experience in video production and editing; Proven experience in digital marketing; Writing and editing skills; Knowledge of digital media and email marketing best practices; Knowledge of graphic design, video production, and online distribution best practices.

Preferred: Bachelors degree in communications, web, or video production; Experience in graphic/multi-media design; Knowledge of Salesforce CRM programs; Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, MS Office products, Google Suite, Salesforce Marketing Cloud analytics, and GradAdvance crowdfunded software; Knowledge and skills with conducting queries with Raiser's Edge.
