The primary purpose of this position is responsibility for clinical training and professional development of students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy degree at the Irvine Campus. Duties include: visit, evaluate, and identify new sites and internships for the psychology students at the Irvine Campus. The sites must meet both the minimal requirements established by the BBS (Board of Behavioral Sciences) and the University. Attention must also be given to the quality of the supervision. In addition to the site visits, a portion of the time will be spent advising MFT practicum students and keeping records.

Duties

  • Clinical Training: Identify, visit, and secure new practicum and intern sites in the Plaza and San Fernando Valley area; Meet with site supervisors on a regular basis, in person and by telephone; Maintain and update the MFT Practicum Site Directory; Advise, counsel, and correspond with MFT trainees/interns and enrolled students, including handling student petitions for unlisted practicum sites; Coordinate and carry out special projects for the MFT Director, as needed/requested; Conduct BBS information meetings on a trimester basis to inform and update students; Process written student requests for practicum exemptions; Establish and maintain clinical training records and documentation for each student as required by the BBS: i.e. the 4Way Agreement.
  • Student Support: Schedule routine meetings, workshops and presentations to MFT students on practicum, licensure, and other clinical training issues, such as: presentation and handling of the paperwork and documentation required by the BBS and Pepperdine for practicum clinical training; Assist students who have questions and concerns about clinical training; Prepare, organize and deliver student orientation meetings each trimester: New Student Orientation, Practicum Information, and Associate Registration; Coordinate events; Plan, schedule and hold events to assist students to progress through MFT training to licensure.
  • Professional Development: Schedule appointments; Assist with mentor program that can include GSEP professional organizations, industry experts, alumni, or outside businesses. Assist with development, advertisement and delivery of mentor programs; Assist with organization of contacts through alumni; Attend appropriate networking meetings with other career professionals. Assists Psy 662 MACLP students, practicum professors and practicum site representatives with the online data management system to ultimately ensure that students clinical hours and experiences count toward state licensure as well as meet Psy 662 and graduation requirements.   
  • Other Duties: Participate in GSEP events, including the annual Commencement; Initiate and execute public relation events for the University and GSEP; Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. One to two years working in a clinic or academic setting. Knowledgeable of marriage & family therapy theories/treatment; able to work effectively with people of varying degrees of training and diverse backgrounds, (i.e. licensed mental health professionals, practicum students, other members of the MFT Clinical Training teams, and practicum instructors; familiarity with the BBS regulations for MFT trainees). Basic word processing and detailed paperwork. IBM compatible or MAC word processor and mainframe hook-up for student records.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
