The Development Operations Manager serves as a partner to the Vice Chancellor for Development and Vice Chancellor for Prospect Development and Data Integrity in the management of the office, business processes, and continuity cross-departmentally. The individual in this role will be the point person for inquiries to the development office and serves as the development liaison to other departments within advancement.


  • Serve as an ambassador for the Vice Chancellor for Development and the Vice Chancellor for Prospect Development and Data Integrity, acting with tact, diplomacy, and discretion on a variety of complex and sensitive issues. Develop and send special correspondence to prominent donors and friends of the University on behalf of the Vice Chancellors. Maintain relationships with prospective donors, donors, members of various Pepperdine boards, and public figures, representing the Vice Chancellors with high professionalism. Plan, execute, and oversee luncheons, dinners, receptions, and other events. Keep detailed records of all contacts and help plan follow-up strategies with all constituents.
  • Manage various projects that are of high priority to the development team, including the creation of long and short-term plans, execution, and appropriate follow-through, developing and enforcing best practices, and promoting continuity and consistency in all business procedures.
  • Independently responsible for managing the Vice Chancellor for Development and Vice Chancellor for Prospect Development and Data Integrity's calendars based on their needs and priorities.
  • Work on various assigned projects, i.e. running front-line fundraiser queries and finalizing donor proposals and GDS forms for gifts closed by the Vice Chancellor for Development.
  • Manage and note all incoming telephone calls to the office. Review and sort incoming mail and propose responses when appropriate.
  • Establish excellent working relationships with key staff members.
  • Manage all office expenditures, including reallocation and substantiation of University credit cards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree (work experience may substitute for a degree); previous experience as an administrative assistant, executive assistant, office manager, or related office experience; attention to detail, organizational skills; professional demeanor; ability to work independently; excellent interpersonal and writing skills; proficiency with Microsoft or Google office suite; proficiency with a computer, copier, fax, and scanner; ability to articulate the Pepperdine mission and incorporate it into daily work. Excellent writing skills, including outstanding spelling and grammar; outstanding skills with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in dealing with confidential information.

Preferred: 2 years of experience in an administrative position; work experience in higher education or fundraising environment.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
