In pursuit of excellence and to align with the University’s mission and strategic plan, this position will work directly with the Chief Financial Officer to help steward the University's resources by offering support in budget and financial analysis, reporting, and general finance operations. This is an ideal role for an individual seeking to develop a broad technical skill set in a highly collaborative setting.

Duties

  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer with varying projects that span the scope of the finance department, including budget management and periodic variance and trend analyses. Investigate key drivers and causes of material variances in order to be able to communicate those drivers through presentation building or written/verbal explanation.
  • Partner with the Department of Planning, Operations, and Construction (POC), in conjunction with Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Finance Operations, to assist with processing requisitions, ensure invoices are submitted in a timely manner, and develop and disseminate reports that accurately reflect the status of purchase orders and invoices.
  • Conduct regular account and project reconciliation to ensure the accuracy of the Department of POC's subsystem and the general ledger. Must use judgment of account and project activity to determine if discrepancies need to be addressed immediately or will resolve over time. 
  • Assist with the finance department's credit card reconciliations and substantiations.
  • Develop a growing understanding and application of the University's financial reporting tools.
  • Provide tailored financial information for surveys requested by various external entities and analyze the results of surveys to conduct peer analysis and benchmarking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of work experience. Strong PC skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in a business-related field (accounting, finance, economics, business). Experience with analytical tools; excellent critical thinking skills; good written and oral communication skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with Oracle PeopleSoft or similar ERP system; Oracle PBCS or similar EPM system.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
